LESCO Detects Power Theft in Depalpur, Issues Bill Exceeding Rs1.38 Million

Anti-theft raid in Okara uncovers illegal electricity usage through direct connections from transformer bushes

Lahore (Zuaib Butt)The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has intensified its crackdown against electricity theft, with a major operation in Depalpur resulting in the detection of large-scale power theft and the issuance of a bill exceeding Rs1.38 million.

The operation was conducted in the Mehtab Wala area of Depalpur Urban Sub-Division under the supervision of Superintending Engineer Okara Circle Syed Qurban Ali Shah and Executive Engineer Depalpur Division Engineer Tabassum Tahir Rao. The raid was carried out on the directives of LESCO Chief Executive Officer Engineer Muhammad Ramzan Butt.

During the anti-theft operation, a consumer was found illegally drawing electricity directly from transformer bushes through additional cables, bypassing he metering system. LESCO officials immediately disconnected the illegal setup, confiscated the meter and related equipment, and documented the violation for legal proceedings.

According to LESCO officials, the consumer was found involved in the theft of 39,450 electricity units. Following the detection, a bill amounting to Rs1,380,109 was imposed on the offender.

A formal case has also been registered against the accused, while further legal action is underway in accordance with electricity theft laws and regulations.

LESCO Chief Executive Officer Engineer Muhammad Ramzan Butt reiterated the company’s commitment to eliminating power theft and said indiscriminate action against electricity thieves would continue across all operational areas.

He directed field officers and staff to maintain strict vigilance, enhance enforcement measures and ensure the achievement of recovery targets while protecting the national power distribution system from losses caused by illegal connections.

The anti-power theft campaign remains a key component of LESCO’s efforts to reduce line losses, improve revenue collection and ensure the fair distribution of electricity to law-abiding consumers.
