Lahore (Zuaib Butt) The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has stepped up its campaign against electricity theft, conducting major operations in Lahore and Okara that led to multiple arrests and the detection of large-scale power pilferage.
In a significant operation in Basirpur Sub-Division of Okara Circle, a special inspection team discovered that Ghulam Rasool Ice Factory was involved in electricity theft through sophisticated tampering of the electricity meter’s software. Investigators found that the consumer had completely bypassed the meter, enabling illegal power consumption and causing an estimated loss of around Rs50 million.
Following confirmation of the theft, legal action was initiated and the suspect was arrested with police assistance. Authorities also imposed detection bill charges equivalent to 150,000 units of electricity.
Meanwhile, in LESCO’s Northern Circle, several operations were conducted in the Sheikhupura Road Sub-Division. During inspections in Nizam Pura, Sachyari Pharmacy was found using electricity through a direct illegal connection. The unauthorized supply was disconnected and a suspect was arrested.
In another operation at Sufi Soap Bazaar, a three-storey building was caught using a bogus electricity meter. The illegal connection was removed and legal proceedings were initiated against the individual involved.
Similarly, in Faisal Park Sub-Division, New Punjab Bakery was found stealing electricity through a direct hook connection. The suspect was arrested and a case was registered.
LESCO management reiterated its commitment to eliminating electricity theft, safeguarding national resources, and protecting the rights of honest consumers. Officials stated that indiscriminate action against power thieves will continue across the company’s operational areas to ensure uninterrupted and fair electricity supply.
