LAHORE(Zuaib Butt) The Meteorological Department has forecast widespread monsoon rainfall across Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa between June 16 and June 19, raising concerns about flooding and weather-related disruptions in several major cities.
According to the forecast, strong monsoon currents are expected to bring moderate to heavy rainfall to various districts, with another spell of rain likely to affect the region on June 21 and 22.
Authorities have warned that intense downpours could trigger urban flooding in low-lying areas of Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, and Peshawar. Water accumulation on roads and in residential neighborhoods may lead to traffic disruptions and localized flooding.
The weather alert also highlights the risk of rising water levels in rivers, streams, and seasonal waterways. Heavy rainfall in upstream catchment areas could cause increased flows in nullahs and tributaries, potentially leading to flash floods in vulnerable locations.
Emergency management agencies and local administrations have been instructed to remain on high alert and ensure preparedness measures are in place. Officials are closely monitoring weather patterns and water levels to respond swiftly to any emergencies.
Citizens have been advised to take precautionary measures, avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall, and stay updated through official weather advisories. Daily flood bulletins will be issued to provide the latest information on rainfall activity and flood risks.
