LAHORE (Zuaib Butt) The Crime Control Department (CCD) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of a 10-year-old girl, Hania, during an operation against armed robbers on June 10, and has reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the rule of law.
According to an official statement, CCD personnel intervened at approximately 11:45 pm on June 10 after receiving information about an ongoing armed robbery. Suspects had allegedly stopped a family vehicle and were holding its occupants at gunpoint when police arrived at the scene.
Authorities said an exchange of fire erupted after the suspects allegedly opened fire on responding officers. During the confrontation, a CCD officer mistakenly believed the suspects were attempting to flee in the victims’ vehicle and discharged his weapon.
The department stated that the officer’s misjudgment resulted in the tragic death of 10-year-old Hania, while her father and brother sustained injuries.
CCD emphasized that the officer’s actions constituted a serious deviation from established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and the legal principles governing the use of force.
The department immediately suspended the officer involved, took him into custody, and subsequently arrested him. He was later produced before a court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
Officials confirmed that an FIR was registered promptly on the complaint of the deceased girl’s father. Forensic evidence, including the officer’s weapon and spent shell casings, has been secured and sent for examination.
CCD officials said they remain in daily contact with the affected family to keep them informed about the progress of the investigation. According to the department, the family has expressed satisfaction with the pace and transparency of the legal proceedings.
The CCD reiterated that it operates under a strict code of conduct that requires restraint and proportional use of force, emphasizing that the protection of human life remains its highest priority.
The department pledged a comprehensive, impartial investigation to ensure justice is served and reaffirmed its unwavering support for the bereaved family as legal proceedings continue.
