11 Killed, 1,592 Injured in 1,351 Road Traffic Crashes Across Punjab

Rescue 1122 reports alarming number of road accidents as motorbikes account for 76 percent of crashes; Lahore records highest number of incidents.

At least 11 people lost their lives and 1,592 others sustained injuries in 1,351 road traffic crashes reported across Punjab during the last 24 hours, according to data released by the Emergency Services Department (Rescue 1122).

Rescue teams responded to accidents in all 37 districts of the province, highlighting the continued challenge of road safety and traffic law enforcement. Of the total injured, 717 victims with serious injuries were shifted to various hospitals for medical treatment, while 875 people with minor injuries were treated at the scene by Rescue Medical Teams, helping reduce pressure on healthcare facilities.

According to the report, motorbikes remained the leading cause of concern, accounting for approximately 76 percent of all reported crashes. Rescue officials emphasized the need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, improved lane discipline, and greater public awareness to curb the rising number of road accidents.

The analysis revealed that 882 drivers, 64 underage drivers, 154 pedestrians, and 567 passengers were among those affected in the crashes. The figures underscore the broad impact of traffic accidents on road users across different age groups and categories.

Lahore recorded the highest number of road traffic crashes, with 225 incidents affecting 270 people. Multan ranked second with 93 accidents involving 98 victims, while Faisalabad recorded 81 crashes affecting 80 individuals.

The data further showed that a total of 1,603 victims were involved in the reported accidents, including 1,241 males and 362 females. In terms of age distribution, 284 victims were below the age of 18, while 868 belonged to the 18-to-40 age group. Another 451 victims were over the age of 40.

A breakdown of vehicles involved in the accidents revealed the participation of 1,482 motorcycles, 74 auto-rickshaws, 166 motorcars, 28 vans, 15 passenger buses, 33 trucks, and 53 other types of vehicles, including slow-moving carts.

Road safety experts continue to stress the importance of responsible driving, adherence to traffic laws, use of safety equipment such as helmets and seat belts, and strict action against underage driving to reduce casualties on Punjab’s roads.

The latest statistics serve as a reminder of the urgent need for enhanced traffic management and public awareness campaigns to prevent avoidable loss of life and injuries caused by road accidents.
