The session was attended by senior administrative and police officials, including the Additional Deputy Commissioner Headquarters, Additional Deputy Commissioner Finance, SSP Operations, and members of the District Peace Committee. Addressing the participants, DIG Operations Faisal Kamran described the Peace Committee as the administration’s and police department’s most effective community-based enforcement partner, playing a crucial role in maintaining peace and stability throughout the city.
Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali Ijaz directed administrative officers to ensure the completion of all necessary civic and municipal works before Ashura. He ordered the immediate cleaning of traditional procession routes, repair and patchwork of roads, and the restoration of all streetlights along procession pathways to facilitate mourners and ensure public safety.
The deputy commissioner also instructed license holders of religious gatherings and processions to remain in close coordination with their respective assistant commissioners regarding any logistical or administrative requirements. He emphasized that timely communication between organizers and authorities would help ensure smooth conduct of all Muharram-related activities.
Muhammad Ali Ijaz warned that negligence, administrative lapses, or failure to perform assigned duties during Muharram would not be tolerated under any circumstances. He reiterated that the safety, security, and convenience of citizens remain the district administration’s top priorities.
Considering the possibility of monsoon rains during Muharram, the administration has also made special arrangements for drainage and emergency response services. Officials have been directed to ensure that rainwater does not disrupt processions or create difficulties for participants attending religious events.
Authorities expressed confidence that through coordinated efforts between law enforcement agencies, administrative departments, religious scholars, and community representatives, Lahore would continue its tradition of observing Muharram in a peaceful, secure, and respectful environment.
