Punjab Roads Turn Deadly as 18 Killed, Nearly 1,500 Injured in 24 Hours

More than 1,300 traffic crashes reported across Punjab, with motorbikes involved in the majority of incidents

LAHORE(Zuaib Butt) LAHORE: Road traffic accidents claimed 18 lives and left 1,485 people injured across Punjab during the past 24 hours, according to data released by emergency authorities.

A total of 1,302 road traffic crashes were reported in all 37 districts of the province. Among the injured, 649 people sustained serious injuries and were shifted to various hospitals for treatment, while 836 victims with minor injuries received first aid at the scene.

Motorcycles were involved in 78 percent of the reported accidents, highlighting the growing need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, helmet use and lane discipline.

The data revealed that 862 drivers, 56 underage drivers, 152 pedestrians and 489 passengers were among those affected in the accidents.

Lahore recorded the highest number of crashes, with 230 incidents affecting 278 people. Multan ranked second with 75 accidents and 78 victims, while Faisalabad reported 69 accidents involving 81 victims.

Statistics further showed that a total of 1,485 victims included 1,169 men and 334 women. Among them, 238 were below the age of 18, while 847 were between 18 and 40 years old. Another 418 victims were above 40 years of age.

The vehicles involved in the accidents included 1,372 motorcycles, 110 auto-rickshaws, 147 cars, 27 vans, eight passenger buses, 41 trucks and 53 other vehicles and slow-moving carts.

Authorities have once again urged motorists to observe traffic laws, wear safety gear and exercise caution on roads to help reduce the rising number of traffic accidents across the province.
