Lahore (Zuaib Butt) The Punjab government’s flagship Lahore Development Programme, launched under the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, is making rapid progress as authorities push forward with large-scale infrastructure upgrades across the city.
A weekly review meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Lahore Captain (R) Muhammad Ali Ijaz assessed the progress of ongoing development projects, including street construction, sewerage improvements, and streetlight installations. Senior officials from the Municipal Corporation Lahore (MCL), WASA, and district administration attended the meeting.
Officials informed the meeting that a total target of 16,410 streets has been set under the programme. Of these, 6,400 streets have already been completed under Phase-I, while Phase-II has achieved 93 percent overall progress.
According to the briefing, WASA has completed work on 646 streets, while MCL has achieved 94 percent completion of independent streets under Phase-II. Additionally, 804 extra streets have been completed under the original work order during Phase-I.
The meeting was further informed that efforts are continuing to enhance public infrastructure, with the installation of more than 197,000 streetlights and the laying of 741 kilometres of sewerage lines across different parts of Lahore.
Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali Ijaz directed all departments to strictly follow the four-tier quality control mechanism and emphasized that no payments would be released to contractors without verification from NESPAK and independent third-party inspectors.
He also instructed relevant agencies to ensure the timely acquisition of necessary No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to avoid disputes related to road cutting and utility works. All departments were directed to complete projects within the prescribed timelines.
The district administration stated that a comprehensive monitoring system is ensuring transparency and quality standards, while the programme is expected to significantly improve civic amenities, urban infrastructure, and the overall quality of life for Lahore residents.
