The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has uncovered 179 cases of electricity theft involving software breaches and load profile manipulation during a major enforcement drive against power theft and illegal system interference.
According to a LESCO spokesperson, the operation was carried out under the directives of Chief Executive Officer Engineer Muhammad Ramzan Butt. Teams led by Chief Engineer TS Design Nisar Sarwar and RMM&T East Asghar Sukhaira conducted inspections across various circles, detecting 165 software breach cases and 14 load profile break cases.
The highest number of violations was reported in Kasur Circle, where officials identified 73 software breach cases and one load profile break case. South Circle recorded 60 software breach cases and one load profile break case, while Eastern Circle detected 31 software breach cases and 11 load profile break cases. Okara Circle reported one software breach case and one load profile break case.
Initial investigations revealed that the consumers involved were allegedly tampering with electricity meters and illegally interfering with the system to conceal actual power consumption and manipulate billing records. Evidence has been collected in all cases, and legal action is being pursued in accordance with applicable regulations.
LESCO CEO Engineer Muhammad Ramzan Butt praised the performance of the M&T East teams and reiterated the company’s zero-tolerance policy against electricity theft and misuse of the power system. He emphasized that strict action would continue against individuals causing losses to national resources.
