LAHORE (Zuaib Butt)The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has intensified its campaign against electricity theft and security breaches, uncovering multiple violations during operations in the Eastern Circle and Mughalpura Sub-Division.
According to a LESCO spokesperson, a monitoring team operating under the supervision of Chief Engineer TS Nisar Sarwar and Regional Manager M&T East Asghar Sukhaira inspected a commercial snooker club in Mughalpura. During the inspection, officials detected a security breach and found evidence suggesting unauthorized interference with the electricity meter’s software.
The team subsequently inspected the residence of the snooker club owner at a separate location, where a similar security breach involving suspected software tampering was also identified. Records from both locations have been compiled and forwarded to the relevant authorities for further legal action.
In a separate operation within the Eastern Circle, officials discovered electricity theft at a multi-storey building in Royal Park Sub-Division. Investigators found that direct connections had been taken from the main WAPDA cable to supply electricity to upper residential floors. Air conditioners and other electrical appliances were operating despite unusually low consumption being recorded on the installed meters.
Detection bills were issued against three electricity meters at the site, while a 50 KVA transformer was removed until outstanding dues are cleared.
Meanwhile, in Gawalmandi Sub-Division, authorities detected direct electricity theft through two connections belonging to a consumer identified as Zafar Iqbal on Food Street Road. The meters and illegal cables were confiscated, detection bills were imposed, and a request for registration of an FIR has been submitted to the concerned police station.
LESCO Chief Executive Officer Engineer Muhammad Ramzan Butt said the operations are part of the company’s zero-tolerance policy against electricity theft and system manipulation. He reiterated that strict action against power theft will continue without discrimination across the region.
