Punjab Roads Turn Deadly: 1,256 Traffic Crashes Leave 7 Dead, 1,477 Injured in 24 Hours

Motorcycles involved in 76% of accidents as Lahore records the highest number of road crashes across the province

Lahore (Zuaib Butt) The Emergency Services Department responded to 1,256 road traffic crashes across Punjab during the last 24 hours, resulting in seven fatalities and 1,477 injuries.

According to official data, 668 seriously injured victims were shifted to various hospitals for treatment, while 807 people with minor injuries received first aid at the scene from Rescue Medical Teams, helping reduce pressure on healthcare facilities.

Motorcycles continued to dominate accident statistics, accounting for 76 percent of all reported crashes. Authorities have emphasized the need for stronger enforcement of traffic laws, improved lane discipline, and increased awareness among motorists to curb the growing number of accidents.

The analysis revealed that 851 drivers, 58 underage drivers, 146 pedestrians, and 485 passengers were among those affected by the crashes.

Lahore recorded the highest number of accidents with 215 road traffic crashes affecting 255 people. Multan ranked second with 83 accidents and 90 victims, while Faisalabad recorded 69 accidents involving 79 victims.

A total of 1,482 victims were affected, including 1,199 males and 283 females. Age-wise statistics showed that 264 victims were below the age of 18, while 829 were between 18 and 40 years old. Another 389 victims were above 40 years of age.

The vehicles involved in the accidents included 1,361 motorcycles, 72 auto-rickshaws, 151 motorcars, 30 vans, eight passenger buses, 34 trucks, and 76 other vehicles and slow-moving carts.

Traffic safety experts continue to stress the importance of helmet use, adherence to speed limits, and responsible driving practices to reduce the rising toll of road accidents across Punjab.
