When Urban Ignorance Reaches the Mountains: Tourists Accused of Bringing Chaos to Pakistan’s Valleys
Residents call for strict action against traffic violators after reckless driving and disorder disrupt life in Mansehra’s scenic mountain regions.
Lahore (Asif Butt) Mansehra — Frustration is growing among local residents and travelers over what many describe as increasingly irresponsible behavior by some tourists visiting Pakistan’s northern areas.
A strongly worded public appeal circulating online has criticized motorists for bringing traffic violations, disorderly conduct, and a lack of civic responsibility into mountain valleys and rural communities. According to the statement, the same habits that have contributed to congestion and disorder in major cities are now affecting some of the country’s most peaceful tourist destinations.
The criticism comes after images emerged showing severe traffic mismanagement on mountain roads, with vehicles allegedly blocking lanes, ignoring traffic rules, and creating long queues that disrupted travel for both locals and visitors.
Residents argue that such behavior not only damages the visitor experience but also creates serious challenges for traffic authorities, local administrations, emergency responders, and nearby communities. They say a small number of reckless drivers can cause hours of delays and inconvenience for thousands of people.
Calls have been made for the Traffic Police Mansehra and district administration to take strict action against violators, regardless of their social status or influence. Citizens are urging authorities to impose heavy fines on drivers who leave designated lanes, obstruct traffic, or engage in dangerous driving practices.
The debate has reignited broader concerns about responsible tourism in Pakistan’s northern regions. Local stakeholders emphasize that protecting the beauty, peace, and environment of mountain destinations requires cooperation from all visitors and strict adherence to traffic regulations.
Many social media users have echoed the sentiment that tourism should bring economic benefits and cultural exchange—not disorder, congestion, and disruption for local communities.
