FIA Decides to Establish FATF Desks Nationwide to Strengthen Financial Crime Monitoring
DG FIA issues directives to all additional directors general and zonal directors as Pakistan moves to enhance compliance and anti-money laundering efforts.
Lahore ( Finale Monitoring) The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has decided to establish dedicated Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Desks across the country in a significant move aimed at strengthening oversight of financial crimes, anti-money laundering measures, and counter-terror financing mechanisms.
According to official directives, the Director General of the FIA has issued orders to all additional directors general and zonal directors for the immediate establishment of FATF Desks within their respective jurisdictions.
The initiative is intended to enhance coordination among FIA units dealing with financial investigations, suspicious transactions, money laundering cases, terror financing networks, and other financial crimes. The dedicated desks will also serve as focal points for monitoring compliance with international standards and ensuring timely reporting and follow-up on relevant cases.
Officials said the new mechanism would improve institutional capacity, facilitate better data management, and strengthen cooperation between federal and provincial law enforcement agencies involved in financial crime investigations.
The establishment of FATF Desks is also expected to streamline communication among various departments responsible for enforcing financial regulations and combating illicit financial activities. The move reflects Pakistan’s continued commitment to maintaining robust compliance frameworks and strengthening financial transparency.
Sources within the FIA indicated that specialized officers may be assigned to these desks to monitor financial crime trends, review ongoing investigations, and ensure effective implementation of national and international obligations related to anti-money laundering and counter-terror financing.
The decision comes as authorities continue efforts to modernize investigative mechanisms and enhance institutional preparedness against increasingly sophisticated financial crimes, including cyber-enabled fraud, illegal money transfers, and organized financial networks.
Officials believe that the dedicated FATF Desks will help improve operational efficiency, accelerate information sharing, and support the FIA’s broader mission of safeguarding Pakistan’s financial system from abuse by criminal elements.
Further guidelines regarding staffing, operational procedures, and reporting mechanisms are expected to be issued in the coming weeks.
