The man reportedly became aware of the issue after his bank card was declined during a routine purchase. Upon contacting the bank, he was informed that his account balance had surged to nearly one trillion Turkish lira, equivalent to around $21.8 billion.
The extraordinary amount would have briefly placed him among the world’s richest individuals. However, bank officials quickly froze the account and launched an investigation to determine how the funds appeared.
The account holder said he had no knowledge of the source of the money and believed the incident was caused by a technical or administrative mistake. Authorities are now examining the case, which has sparked widespread attention and renewed discussion about safeguards within modern banking systems.
